I believe that therapology encompasses the act of balancing our mind, soul, and physical well being. So, in order to come to a sense of self-actualization, I attempt to not only work on my way of thinking and feeling, but also how I physically take care of myself.
Moving toward personal fulfillment, I have decided to transition to all natural/organic products. This all began a few months ago with the change in the groceries I purchased. However, this led me to feel like I was cheating myself by only altering one component of my life. Although it was a slow start, I embarked on my transition to all natural everyday products. This includes, beauty, hair, skin care products, shower essentials, and household cleaners, etc. I have yet to convert 100%, but it is a work in progress.
I have replaced the majority of my cosmetics and personal care products that carry toxic ingredients. The app Thinkdirty, is a great way to check for carcinogens, developmental toxins, and allergens in our everyday essentials. You can also just research the ingredients used in some of these products.
Here are a few of my favorites thus far.
This mascara is amazing! I feel like it lengthens and thickens my lashes, yet looks natural. This formula is smudge and water proof so it lasts all day. Despite its waterproof quality, it does not take an arm and a leg trying to remove it, like most other mascaras! Also, I have noticed less frequent eyelash loss when removing my eye makeup, and in general. I would give this product an 8.5 – 9/10.
I have combination skin and am a user of all things matte. This is why I was hesitant to use this all natural product, especially because it contains SPF. Not that I don’t use SPF, but in the past I have found SPF containing foundations made me look greasy. I was surprised to find myself very fond of this foundation! I wouldn’t say that it is completely matte, because it transitions from matte to slightly dewy a few hours later. Not a bad greasy dewy, but rather a glowy and healthy complexion. It secretly reminds me of HD Makeup Forever, due its consistency and texture, but more sheer. I like that it can look natural with a lighter application, but also allows for buildable coverage. I am in the color Peach Bisque. I would rate this product an 8/10.
This lipstick is beautiful! It is the perfect nude for everyday wear. It leaves a satin finish, moisturizes your lips, and is free of toxic chemicals. I am obsessed with this lipstick color and its packaging. The color is a bolder nude, packaged inside of a sleek deep magenta casing. You do have to re-apply throughout the day, as it does not stain your lips. I would rate this a 9/10.
This kelp and mint shampoo delivers what it intends to- volume. I feel like it really does leave my hair more voluminous, clean, and happily safe from harsh ingredients. It smells herbal and minty, and lathers in your hair, which I really like! I would give this shampoo a 9/10.
I got this body wash at Whole Foods, and it was reasonably priced for the amount of product you get. It has a gender neutral scent (me and my husband use it), and lathers up a perfect amount on your skin. I feel clean when done, and my skin feels moisturized. It is all natural, and the company Alaffia holds great moral values/goals (google them). I would rate this a 9.5/10.
This Almond facial cream is beyond amazing in my eyes. You can use it AM or PM. I typically use it in the morning under my makeup/SPF. It is very light-weight, yet moisturizing. It mattifies my skin and does not make it look oily. Also, it has a subtly pleasant almond scent. I give this a 10/10.
